WHO WE ARE
Vernon Films is a female led production company, founded in 2012 by Romanian-born sisters Mara Adina and Ilinca Calugareanu.
Working primarily with art house directors, they produce commercially driven independent cinema with a focus on character led stories told by creative, boundary pushing voices. Their films engage hybrid storytelling approaches , blurring the line between fiction and documentary, in order to build immersive, authentic and impactful work that reaches the widest possible audiences.
Their films have been supported by some of the most prestigious institutions and fellowships in the industry, including the Sundance Institute, Chicken and Egg Pictures, Women in Film, Berlinale Talents, Hot Docs Cross Currents, SFFilm, MEDIA Europe and the International Documentary Association. Their films have premiered at Sundance Film Festival, Hot Docs Film Festival, Cph:dox, Sheffield Doc Fest and many other film festivals around the world, distributed in cinemas in the US and Europe and playing on major streamers like Netfilx, Hulu and HBO Max.
The team takes projects on from early development to finance, package, manage production and find world distribution for them though their wide network of equity funders and international buyers. They are committed to working with creative auteur directors on passion projects which have the scope and range to become commercially successful films.
